We had a great 1st quarter 2011 planning meeting last night, I want to thank all of you that came to the meeting and participation in the planning discussions and balloon making fun and all the great finger food you all brought to share with you fellow club members !! J We appreciate your involvement and input. I am sorry for the length of minutes email but we talked about a lot of things for the club to do in 2011 at the 1st planning meeting and individual emails will be sent out for each event that is planned but this will give you the overall picture so far.
New members - Suzie Feinauer and Howard Moller from the Salmon Creek area in Washington.
We have made some updates to the club website: direct link to our Facebook club group page, TVCC Blog page and TVCC Forum page. If you get a chance check out the new pages and see what you think. All of these pages and links are ways you can communicate with your fellow club members, share information and post items for sale. Let us know what you think, any changes or ideas for the website are welcomed. www.tvccpt.com
Club flags – we mentioned last night that we have to order a minimum of 10 club flags at a time, after seeing that we have 7 of the 10 already sold we made the decision to go ahead and place an order. We can always order more than 10 flags so if you were not at the meeting last night and would like to add your name to the list of people who want to purchase a flag please let me know as soon as possible. The cost this year has went up to $20.00 each.
Club window stickers – due to the quantity that we have to order (125) we will not be able to order any stickers this year but are planning on including them in the 2012 membership cost and order new ones then for everyone. Cost per sticker is $1.35. If we get an overwhelming response to new club stickers this year and everyone is willing to pay the $1.35 we can consider ordering them this year, the current membership for 2011 is 115 members so far which breaks down to 71 PT’s so if we purchased stickers we would have a few left over unless some people wanted 2 stickers. Let us know what you think.
We announced a Club Photo Contest that will take place throughout the year ending in the winning pictures being used to create a club calendar for 2012 that you will be able to purchase in December. If you need further information concerning this contest let me know and I can email you the form and directions that were handled out last night at the meeting.
Patricia has volunteered to head up the clubs charity for 2011 and will like your suggestions and ideas for what charity the club would like to participate in for 2011. Please give her your thoughts on what charity you feel the club should participate in (not so much donate money but donate time or other things)
I would like to thank Rick Sullivan for putting together a animal great balloon education demonstration last night. I also want to thank all of you for participating in the fun, we really should have had a video camera there last night so you could have seen some of your facially expressions as you were twisting and bending those balloons, just waiting for them to pop !! J Heck we may have been able to win some money on American’s Funniest Video’s !!!
Upcoming events for the 1st quarter you all voted on and decided to do:
Instead of a monthly meeting in February it was decided that we would have a Valentine’s Dinner / meeting night out on Saturday 2/12 at Famous Dave’s BBQ Restaurant http://www.famousdaves.com/TualatinOR ) Rick Sullivan and Pat Chase will be organizing this event for us, further details will be coming out soon. Please let us know if you will be attending this fun dinner event.
You expressed your interest in going to the Rice Museum for a tour and then a short cruise afterwards for lunch on Saturday 2/19. Here is a link to the Rice Museum which is a fantastic rock museum: http://www.ricenorthwestmuseum.org There will be a group discount rate if we have 30 or more people sign up to go so please let me know if you will be attending this fun event. We would be meeting at 9:45 in Hillsboro to make the short cruise to the museum, the tour would start at 10:00 and last approximately 2 hours and then we would take a short cruise to an undermined (at this time) restaurant for lunch. Normal fee would be $7.00 per adult and $6.00 per senior not knowing what the group discount would be yet. I imagine it would be at least a dollar off if not more.
Instead of a monthly meeting in March it was decided that we will be doing the ST Patrick’s day parade in Hillsboro on Saturday 3/12 and then lunch / meeting afterwards. Please let me know if you will be attending the parade / cruise / lunch / meeting event. Further details to be sent out as we get closer as far as time and etc.
Possibility of a movie night at the Cinetopa Movie theater (http://www.cinetopiatheaters.com/index.php ) in Vancouver on Saturday 3/19 if we get enough people interested in going. Unsure of the movie yet since we will not know what will be playing at that time yet. We can have dinner either close by at couple of different places or have dinner at Cinetopa. They will serve dinner in the movie theater along with drinks if you so desire. Please let us know if you are interested in this event so we can start the planning process.
1st long cruise of the Year will be on Saturday 3/26 at this time, we are still working on where we all want to go for this cruise. If you have some special place you would like to go see please let us know. This could be an overnight trip to the coast if that would be of interest to you, this particular week is whale watching week on the coast. Maybe spend the night at Inn at the Spanish Head or in Newport somewhere, just some thoughts. Please let us know your thoughts concerning this cruise so we can get the planning process started.
Our next 2nd Quarter planning meeting will be on Friday April 8th at Finley’s in the Garden Room and once again we will have a finger food potluck like we did at this planning meeting.
It was decided last night that we would hold a planning meeting once a quarter and the monthly meetings may be replaced at times with another event instead of having a monthly meeting. We may still have a monthly meeting depending on what everyone decides at the quarterly planning meeting each quarter, that is why is important for you to attend the quarterly planning meeting so we know what all of you want to do the upcoming quarter. Some events need to be planned way in advance like the Vacation Cruises, Ice Cream Social, Thanksgiving Dinner and Christmas party so some of these events were decided on last night at the 1st quarter planning meeting.
The only one if the list that was not be finalized yet would be the Christmas Party (other than that instead of White Elephant exchange it will be a Gift exchange so everyone can see what great gifts they want to trade for since the majority of the gifts over the years have been really nice ones instead of a white elephant gift .. J .. lol ..) so we still need to decide whether we go back to the Doubletree Hotel for a plated dinner or we have a potluck dinner up at Finley’s. Please express your vote concerning this event since if we choose the Doubletree Hotel we have to reserve the room way in advance.
Vacation Cruises decision –
Sisters & Bend vacation cruise - July 21 – 24 so we can see the Central Oregon Balloon Festival (http://www.balloonsoverbend.com ) Basic cruise would be to head down to Eugene and then up the Mackenize River highway to Sisters spending some time shopping in Sisters then continue on into Bend and spend the next 2 evenings in Bend so we can attend some of the events at the balloon festival and go see the High Desert Museum (http://www.highdesertmuseum.org ) and then cruise to the mouth of the Metolius River on our way back home. Let us know if you are interested in this event.
Jet Boats / Dune Buggies - August 21 – 24 – Basic details would be cruise down to Gold Beach spend 2 evenings at the (http://www.innofthebeachcomber.com/index.html mention TVCC for group rate), take the Rogue River jet boat ride (http://www.roguejets.com ). Cruise back up the coast stopping at the lighthouse at Cape Blanco (http://www.nwcoast.com/lighthouses/oregon/capeblanco.asp ) before continuing on to Florence and the dune buggy ride (http://www.sandland.com/default.htm ) for those of you not interested in the dune buggy ride you could visit old town Florence (http://www.florenceoregon.net/old-town.htm ) and then for those of you what want to spend the evening at the Three Rivers Casino (http://www.threeriverscasino.com ) then continuing on up the coast the following day stopping at some of the other light houses (http://www.nwcoast.com/lighthouses/oregon.asp ) up the coast line and on home unless some of you want to spend another night on the coast somewhere. Let us know if you are interested in this event for planning purposes and group pricing for the jet boats and dune buggy rides.
