January 2012 Meeting

We had a fantastic meeting last night, I have never seen so many people laugh as hard as everyone did last night.  A couple of you mentioned to me on the way out, heck normally you have to pay for this much fun and laughter when you go to a comedy club.  We want to thank Don and Linda for organizing this fantastic evening !!  We also want to thank everyone for sharing your stories, they were GREAT and very entertaining !!  The meeting was such a success we were wondering if maybe we can come up with another subject that all of you would be interested in sharing your stories with your fellow members.  If you have some ideas please let us know, we welcome and appreciate your input and suggestions.

We have a number of events in the planning stages for our 10 year anniversary of the club that we hope to see all of you and hopefully members that were in the club at some point over the last 10 years.  Between 2004 and 2006 the membership hit a high of 352 members, we are going to invite everyone that I still have contact information to the Ice Cream Social this year for a reunion, if you have contact information of any past members please send it to me in case I may have outdated information.

Reminder your renewal membership is due and if you are planning on renewing your 2012 membership, please let me know plus go online to fill out the renewal membership form and mail your dues to TVCC, 1550 SE 73rd Ave, Hillsboro, OR, 97123 so that you will continue to receive TVCC emails and updates about upcoming events.

This is your club and any club is only as strong as its membership, become involved with ideas and suggestions of things you want to do in 2012 !! J

Looking forward to 2012 and seeing all of you !!

We had a great meeting last night, the fellowship was great, the food was great and the movie was great !!  I want to thank those of you that were able to join in last night, appreciate your support.

I want to thank Don and Linda for bringing the BBQ again, it worked perfect as always, I want to thank Millen, Rick and Don for being the cooks, they did an excellent job, the burgers and dogs were great !! J

For those of you that were not able to make it last night you missed out on a great time, hope you can make it next month and to any of our upcoming events.

Speaking of upcoming events ..  hope that you will be able to join us for the following events.

May 21st – Be the leader Cruise

We will be taking volunteers to led the group and follow GPS instructions from a designated point to another designated point as we make our way from Hillsboro to Walery’s Pizza in Salem for a late lunch. If all else fails and we get no volunteers, I can always led the group, I just thought it would be fun for some of you to experience leading the group and if you never have used a GPS see how it works first hand.  Depending on the time table we can stop and visit some the designated points as we go. We will be started from Movies on TV Highway at 0930. Please let me know if you are planning on joining us for this adventure, thank you.

June 11th – Club gathering at Finley’s

We will have an appetizers theme potluck.  Steve will be conducting his communication style assessment (really fun and turns out pretty darn true, good information to know) plus Becci has invited her Naturopathic doctor to come and talk to us.

Please join Dr. Jesse Buttler of Northwest Natural Medicine to learn about his unique approach to health care using naturopathic medicine. Dr. Buttler will be speaking on how you can begin taking control of your health and working to address the cause of disease and illness. Please come along with any questions or inquires that you may have about natural medicine.

April 2011 Meeting Minutes

We had another great meeting Friday night, the desserts that everyone brought to share were great and the fellowship was even greater.

We had one new member that joined the club, please make sure to welcome Jeffery Brock from NE Portland area.  Jeffrey moved here from Sacramento.

Make sure to pass out the club flyers inviting all PT owners to come check out the club and join us.

Reminder of the picture contest we have going on throughout the year, summit photo’s from cruises or events to either Bonnie or myself.  At the end of the year we would like to incorporate them into a 2012 calendar.

In an article I was reading it stated it has been proven that people are happier in their lives if they attend a gathering or meeting of some sort at least once a month to share their life with friends and family.  With this in mind we decided that at least once a month we will either have a gathering and each quarter we will have at least one planning meeting.  So you will see in our upcoming events club gatherings with certain themes.  We hope that all of you will come to the meetings and the gatherings.

Upcoming events –

Oregon Garden Cruise – Bob Patterson is sponsoring this event on Saturday April 30th

Please let Bob know if you are planning on going on this fun cruise.  n1bpguyme@yahoo.com   There will be another email sent out reminding you of the start time and details of the cruise.

Club gathering – May 13th – BBQ – American Graffiti movie and theme for the evening

Papa’s Toys Car show – May 14th

Jody and I have some other commitments this year so we will not be able to attend, I know some of you are wanting to attend so if any of you want to take charge and setup a meeting location please let me know.  http://www.papastoyscarcollection.com

Follow your fellow club member cruise – Saturday – May 21st

We will be putting together a cruise that will start from Sherwood and go from town to town until we finally arrive at Walery’s Pizza in Salem ( http://waleryspizza.com ) where we will have a late lunch or early dinner ( hopefully not an early breakfast .. J or a late night snack ) Each cruise from town to town will be led by one of your fellow club members so a number of members can experience leading a cruise.  We will provide each leader with a general map and directions of the part they will be leading the group.  We will assist them but it will be up to them to make the final decision of what path the group is going to take to get to the next destination.  This should be fun, please come and join in.  Further details will be sent out later.

Club gathering – June 10th – appetizers potluck – Steve’s communication style survey

Hood River Wine Cruise – June 18th

Further details will be sent out as we get closer.

Club planning meeting / gathering – July 8th – Red Skelton theme – potluck

Hell’s Canyon Scenic Byway Cruise – July 18th – July 21th

http://www.hellscanyonbyway.com/index.html   We will be spending one night at Wildhorse Casino in Pendleton, one night at Eagle Cap Resort at Wallowa Lake and one night at Geiser Hotel in Baker City. We will be doing the Pendleton Underground tour, shopping at Enterprise and Joseph, riding the tram to the top of MT Howard, seeing the Hells Canyon Dam, checking out the large town of Halfway, visiting the Oregon Trail Center just to name a few things.   Since we have cancelled the jet boat cruise for this year, we could use this cruise for our vacation cruise.  Jody and I have never been to this part of Oregon so thought we would go, you all are invited to join us.  There will not be a lot of advance planning other then motels, this will be an adventure on roads we have never been on before !! J

Club gathering – August 12th – Lucy Ball theme – (Lucy’s 100th birthday) – potluck

We will have our Thanksgiving dinner again at the church in Hillsboro.

The Christmas party will be up at Finley’s this year.

Millen and Carol did an excellent job with the childhood picture game at the meeting, I want to thank them for putting that together.  It was very interesting to see younger pictures of our fellow club members. J …   We will have another picture game but this time it will be pictures of you between the age of 13 and 19.  Could be prom night, graduation, your first date, etc etc.  We can have some fun with this !!  Please start looking for your picture or pictures if you want since this time we are going to scan them into the computer and put a slide show together so we can all see them at the same time on the TV.  Please either email me your pictures or give them to me so I can scan them into my computer.

Hope to see all of you are upcoming events and gatherings.  The more involved you become in the club the stronger the club becomes.

Happy Cruisin !!

Thanks Rick, Jody and all of the Board members

January 2011 Meeting Minutes

We had a great 1st quarter 2011 planning meeting last night, I want to thank all of you that came to the meeting and participation in the planning discussions and balloon making fun and all the great finger food you all brought to share with you fellow club members !! J  We appreciate your involvement and input.  I am sorry for the length of minutes email but we talked about a lot of things for the club to do in 2011 at the 1st planning meeting and individual emails will be sent out for each event that is planned but this will give you the overall picture so far.

New members -  Suzie Feinauer and Howard Moller from the Salmon Creek area in Washington.

We have made some updates to the club website: direct link to our Facebook club group page, TVCC Blog page and TVCC Forum page.  If you get a chance check out the new pages and see what you think.  All of these pages and links are ways you can communicate with your fellow club members, share information and post items for sale.  Let us know what you think, any changes or ideas for the website are welcomed.   www.tvccpt.com

Club flags – we mentioned last night that we have to order a minimum of 10 club flags at a time, after seeing that we have 7 of the 10 already sold we made the decision to go ahead and place an order. We can always order more than 10 flags so if you were not at the meeting last night and would like to add your name to the list of people who want to purchase a flag please let me know as soon as possible. The cost this year has went up to $20.00 each.

Club window stickers – due to the quantity that we have to order (125) we will not be able to order any stickers this year but are planning on including them in the 2012 membership cost and order new ones then for everyone.  Cost per sticker is $1.35.  If we get an overwhelming response to new club stickers this year and everyone is willing to pay the $1.35 we can consider ordering them this year, the current membership for 2011 is 115 members so far which breaks down to 71 PT’s so if we purchased stickers we would have a few left over unless some people wanted 2 stickers.  Let us know what you think.

We announced a Club Photo Contest that will take place throughout the year ending in the winning pictures being used to create a club calendar for 2012 that you will be able to purchase in December.   If you need further information concerning this contest let me know and I can email you the form and directions that were handled out last night at the meeting.

Patricia has volunteered to head up the clubs charity for 2011 and will like your suggestions and ideas for what charity the club would like to participate in for 2011.  Please give her your thoughts on what charity you feel the club should participate in (not so much donate money but donate time or other things)

I would like to thank Rick Sullivan for putting together a animal great balloon education demonstration last night.  I also want to thank all of you for participating in the fun, we really should have had a video camera there last night so you could have seen some of your facially expressions as you were twisting and bending those balloons, just waiting for them to pop !!  J  Heck we may have been able to win some money on American’s Funniest Video’s !!!

Upcoming events for the 1st quarter you all voted on and decided to do:

Instead of a monthly meeting in February it was decided that we would have a Valentine’s Dinner  / meeting night out on Saturday 2/12 at Famous Dave’s BBQ Restaurant  http://www.famousdaves.com/TualatinOR )  Rick Sullivan and Pat Chase will be organizing this event for us, further details will be coming out soon.  Please let us know if you will be attending this fun dinner event.

You expressed your interest in going to the Rice Museum for a tour and then a short cruise afterwards for lunch on Saturday 2/19.  Here is a link to the Rice Museum which is a fantastic rock museum: http://www.ricenorthwestmuseum.org  There will be a group discount rate if we have 30 or more people sign up to go so please let me know if you will be attending this fun event. We would be meeting at 9:45 in Hillsboro to make the short cruise to the museum, the tour would start at 10:00 and last approximately 2 hours and then we would take a short cruise to an undermined (at this time) restaurant for lunch.  Normal fee would be $7.00 per adult and $6.00 per senior not knowing what the group discount would be yet. I imagine it would be at least a dollar off if not more.

Instead of a monthly meeting in March it was decided that we will be doing the ST Patrick’s day parade in Hillsboro on Saturday 3/12 and then lunch / meeting afterwards.  Please let me know if you will be attending the parade / cruise / lunch / meeting event. Further details to be sent out as we get closer as far as time and etc.

Possibility of a movie night at the Cinetopa Movie theater (http://www.cinetopiatheaters.com/index.php ) in Vancouver on Saturday 3/19 if we get enough people interested in going.  Unsure of the movie yet since we will not know what will be playing at that time yet. We can have dinner either close by at couple of different places or have dinner at Cinetopa.  They will serve dinner in the movie theater along with drinks if you so desire.  Please let us know if you are interested in this event so we can start the planning process.

1st long cruise of the Year will be on Saturday 3/26 at this time, we are still working on where we all want to go for this cruise.  If you have some special place you would like to go see please let us know. This could be an overnight trip to the coast if that would be of interest to you, this particular week is whale watching week on the coast.  Maybe spend the night at Inn at the Spanish Head or in Newport somewhere, just some thoughts.  Please let us know your thoughts concerning this cruise so we can get the planning process started.

Our next 2nd Quarter planning meeting will be on Friday April 8th at Finley’s in the Garden Room and once again we will have a finger food potluck like we did at this planning meeting.

It was decided last night that we would hold a planning meeting once a quarter and the monthly meetings may be replaced at times with another event instead of having a monthly meeting. We may still have a monthly meeting depending on what everyone decides at the quarterly planning meeting each quarter, that is why is important for you to attend the quarterly planning meeting so we know what all of you want to do the upcoming quarter.  Some events need to be planned way in advance like the Vacation Cruises, Ice Cream Social, Thanksgiving Dinner and Christmas party so some of these events were decided on last night at the 1st quarter planning meeting.

The only one if the list that was not be finalized yet would be the Christmas Party (other than that instead of White Elephant exchange it will be a Gift exchange so everyone can see what great gifts they want to trade for since the majority of the gifts over the years have been really nice ones instead of a white elephant gift .. J .. lol ..)  so we still need to decide whether we go back to the Doubletree Hotel for a plated dinner or we have a potluck dinner up at Finley’s.  Please express your vote concerning this event since if we choose the Doubletree Hotel we have to reserve the room way in advance.

Vacation Cruises decision –

Sisters & Bend vacation cruise - July 21 – 24 so we can see the Central Oregon Balloon Festival (http://www.balloonsoverbend.com ) Basic cruise would be to head down to Eugene and then up the Mackenize River highway to Sisters spending some time shopping in Sisters then continue on into Bend and spend the next 2 evenings in Bend so we can attend some of the events at the balloon festival and go see the High Desert Museum  (http://www.highdesertmuseum.org ) and then cruise to the mouth of the Metolius River on our way back home.  Let us know if you are interested in this event.

Jet Boats / Dune Buggies - August 21 – 24 – Basic details would be cruise down to Gold Beach spend 2 evenings at the (http://www.innofthebeachcomber.com/index.html mention TVCC for group rate), take the Rogue River jet boat ride (http://www.roguejets.com ). Cruise back up the coast stopping at the lighthouse at Cape Blanco (http://www.nwcoast.com/lighthouses/oregon/capeblanco.asp ) before continuing on to Florence and the dune buggy ride (http://www.sandland.com/default.htm ) for those of you not interested in the dune buggy ride you could visit old town Florence (http://www.florenceoregon.net/old-town.htm ) and then for those of you what want to spend the evening at the Three Rivers Casino (http://www.threeriverscasino.com ) then continuing on up the coast the following day stopping at some of the other light houses (http://www.nwcoast.com/lighthouses/oregon.asp ) up the coast line and on home unless some of you want to spend another night on the coast somewhere. Let us know if you are interested in this event for planning purposes and group pricing for the jet boats and dune buggy rides.
